I've been through several bottles of TF-4 Fixer concentrate and all of the previous times I've ordered it, the unmixed concentrate solution and clumped matter at the bottom was essentially white.

I just bought a bottle (shipped from B&H Photo) and with this bottle, the clumped matter was partially orange. I've not seen this before, it's always just been white.

I've attached a photo, it's not as obvious in the photo but, there's a fair amount of orange material (you can see it in the center and near the bottom).

Is this normal? Is this any indication of the condition of the concentrate? Just curious before I try to use it....

never had this problem with tf-4... if i did, i run a clip test, or use hypo check, (probably both)... if film cleared in reasonable time, i'd use it.
My only concern, if I mix the solution, and it turns out bad, would be if B&H Photo would replace it after having mixed it. It's not expensive but still.... I've emailed Photographers Formulary as well, I'm waiting to see what they say before contacting B&H Photo.

I'll add that I have not seen this in many years of using TF-4.

Have you contacted either of the sellers?

I'm waiting on a response from the manufacturer (Photographers Formulary) once I hear from them and if they confirm it's not normal, I was going to message B&H. I was just posting here to see if others have seen this.

I got a response from Photographers Formulary:

“This is a typical solution color, and color will vary. We mix and package that product every 2-3 weeks and B&H is a constant repurchase dealer.”

So, I guess some variation is normal. I’ll go ahead and use it.

I have also never seen orange TF-4. Since PE is the inventor of this particular product, I would be interested in his take on what would cause orange precipitate in it, just for curiosity's sake.

TF5 is the version

IIRC, TF5 is the one that PE helped create.

TF-5 is awesome BTW, ordered a bottle from B&H and been using it with Ultrafine Extreme 100 bulk film & really like it so far.
