Going to bore you with a story for a moment. Going back a few years, 2012 to be precise..... this was my first attempt to make a portrait on Large format (Toyo Monorail, with a Schneider 210mm F5.6 lens on Arista EDU Ultra 100. Borrowed by a friend who is no longer into LF). It took me ages to "get it right". From the time I asked my kids to sit till the time I fired the shutter, it was nearly 2 hours (I have 2 daughters, who took it in turn to sit). I got too caught up playing with all those weird and wonderful movements, where's I should have just zero'd them out and taken the shot dammit.
By the time I was ready to take the photo, the kids were bored. I asked them to look miserable and these were the results. Couldn't have gotten better if I had tried!
Lighting was simple - I fired two strobes with the standard lamp shade modifier, off the back wall to fill the room with light. It was a crap shoot, but it worked perfectly
