Hey Aviv,

It's pretty much bad all the way through the range. This echoes what others have said on the Facebook group.

Jeremy

Lens element in backward, perhaps? Of course, even for a Holga, that's not something you should have to fix in a new camera...

Cheez, the pan-shots are amazing. Looking for a Pan a few months now without any success...

Great shot. Border Collies are smarter than most people.

I agree. I had two and if I had enough space for one get a good run I would have one now. The first one I had we estimated his working vocabulary was over 1,000 words understood, not commands.

I just bought one from B&H, supposedly in stock.

B&H is now showing out of stock on that item - I'm certain if it is new stock like what Freestyle has there's a possibility it may have focus issues like the rest.

I doubt that it will be useful that they ship it back around the world again, but I'll keep an eye on it. Thx!

I see that the Chinese website Alibaba lists them, individually and in bulk. So Jereme, what are the focus issues?

I saw this as well, but I‘m not familiar with alibaba and on usual order process they offer at or above 20 pieces?!

There may be Holgas out there that have lenses better than others and I just got lucky with all of the ones that I own.

Although, honestly, I think a lot of the un-sharp Holga images that I see may be more due to user error or user intent.

Jeremy

For some reason my girlfriend's Holga pictures always seem to have better focus than mine, and we have several cameras between us.

It won't focus at infinity - with ground glass in and set to infinity, my neighbor's house across the street is blurry. Same test with my older 'Pan next to it is sharp (as sharp as a Holga can be) and the house numbers are easily read. It's essentially the same problem across the entire range. Others on the Facebook group have reported the same, with some saying its almost "OK" at 1 meter but still not as good as a normal Holga 120N.

Given Freestyle's response - I'd be hesitant to purchase any of the "new" batch, not matter the source. And by "new" I mean basically anything on the market at the moment. They haven't made them for years so its a good bet that anything that has popped up recently is new.

It took me forever to find my old one earlier this year - and it was by sheer luck and the kindness of a fellow photographer in the UK that was willing to part with his.

Think of Alibaba as a broker between (generally) the Chinese manufacturer and you as a prospective reseller or volume consumer.

So.............

I purchased one of the new Holga 120 Pan cameras from Freestyle as a back-up to the older one I already have.

On the Holga Facebook Group, a discussion popped up in the last few weeks regarding folks that have received their new 'Pans that are having problems focusing at infinity.

I pulled my new one out of the box last week and checked it with a piece of ground glass. Sure enough - blurry at infinity, and through the rest of the range as well. I had my old 'Pan next to it on another tripod and it was fine.

Freestyle was great as usual - they got back to me yesterday and issued a call-tag to take it back. They stated they are not able to send me a replacement at the moment as they are trying to figure out if this affects all or part of their new stock.

Just wanted to post this here as a follow-up in case anyone is wanting to pull the trigger on purchasing one right now - I'd recommend to wait.

Now I think I should return the Holga Pan unopened to B&H when it arrives.

That sounds like a smart move for you. You have other wonderful cameras to use.

I do have many cameras to use including several Holgas and a great Zero Image Pinhole. But the idea of a 6x12 Holga that takes truly wonderful pictures like JM's was a great temptation. Anyway, back it goes.

Hi all! I'm new here but wanted to jump in with some of my favorites. This is on Kodak Ektar 100, which is usually my go-to. I love seeing the magic you all make with this cheap piece of plastic!

Welcome to APUG Photrio!!
We took a "Hike the Hollywood Sign" tour that starts by snaking through the neighborhood that lies beneath the sign, so this is from a dirt landing right before you start walking on Mt. Lee Dr. up to the actual sign. Very cool tour that takes you up above the sign so you're looking down on it and the city at night. (https://goo.gl/maps/NnKLwrwvs2MMuyEg9)

Thank you! It's still my favorite camera to shoot with because it's almost like gambling; you can give yourself an edge if you know how to play, but it's still really out of your hands! I like photos that aren't quite perfect & have some atmosphere to them, so Holgas are ideal.

Just awesome. Do you have any unprocessed scans of this frame? I'm constantly struggling with discarding frames because those doesn't look immediately good in straight contact prints. I would need some reminders to look beyond the negative. And to see this final print when looking at the scene, just impossible for me.
