Who is manufacturing this Rodinal? Will it run out after a while or is it here to stay?
Ara

If it says "Agfa Photo" on the bottle than it's leftover stock from Agfa Photo after the liquidation.

In years to come, people will rave about the intangible yet superior qualities of pre-A&O Rodinal. The grain, the unique tonality, the delicate highlights, the almost 3-dimensional images of pre-A&O Rodinal will become legend. Others will dispute it, causing fierce flame wars that lead to multiple ejections from APUG and banishment to photo.net, but this will only solidify the mystique of pre-A&O Rodinal. People will ruthlessly snipe their best friends and mothers on ebay to get hold of pre-A&O Rodinal for $500 or more per bottle. Heads of state will exchange bottles of expensive wine and bottles of pre-A&O Rodinal. People will baptize their children and pets in pre-A&O Rodinal, 1:10000 for 30 seconds with intermittant agitation.

Thank god I have a large supply of pre-A&O Rodinal.

I can see myself opening a bottle of the old stuff, letting it breath, pouring it into my measuring beaker and swishing it around while taking a deep breath before pouring the 50 parts water into it and then into my dev tank.

I wasnt expecting it at least until the post-pre-A&O Rodinal came out! That pre-A&O Rodinal is even more superior than I thought.

I just scored 12 500ml bottles of the original Rodinal. It has, how shall we say, a very nice bouquet.

And yes, I intend on using it. All of it. It will not be stored in a cave forever.

When someone gets it in hand, I'm curious to see what the new logo, label, etc. looks like.

See, I went and bought r09 which meant, of course, that Rodinal would show up just as it came in.

Just got mine in the mail from Freestyle today. Here's how the packaging looks:

We were just sitting down to dinner, and I had that moment mentioned
that the Rodinal should be coming any time now when Fedex rang the doorbell.

Alec (our four-year old) jumped up "Whoozat?"
Dianna and I simultaneously "Rodinal!!"
Alec runs through the house hollering "Rodinal! Rodinal! Rodinal!"
runs up to the window, throws open the curtain and greets Mr. Fedex guy hollering and jumping up and down "Rodinal! Rodinal! Rodinal!!!"

That's our boy.

Three-month old Harper, chillin' on her playmat just cooed and chuckled. No doubt, an alt-process girl.

You sly devil. This may be the first case of Rodinal causing pianist interruptus. And how you coyly leave the lot number blurry!

My empty Agfa-Gevaert (white bottle - old box) is 86423 P my present (also Agfa-Gevaert white bottle - old box), just opened is 84919 B and I must say it has great legs and great colour, and "auch how it hugs the road" as Jackie Stewart said, "If it's no RRodinal it's crrap!". My new bottles - purchased in December/January are:

Agfa-Gevaert (clear bottle-old box) 89808 O and 90219 D
Agfa Photo (clear bottle - new box) 90818 W

All of the above are 500ml bottles.

I also stated on another thread that I had paid $14.87CDN per bottle in Winnipeg. My apologies to the staff at Photo Central - the price was actually $14.55 CDN - it must be the presbyopia.

Does anyone know what those lot numbers mean? Could be useful in future.

Congrats on your successful delivery.

Cheers,
Clarence

Thanks. Looks like they dropped the old <Agfa> style logo. Interesting that A&O got the name Agfaphoto as well. I was almost expecting to see "A&O Rodinal" labeled bottles.

Now time to use that Fortepan I see in the picture and dev it in some Rodinal.

The Agfa logo with the rhombus belongs to Agfa Gevaert. What you see in the picture is the Agfa Photo logo. Anything sold by Agfa Photo with the rhombus logo was so because they used existing cartons that were printed already before Agfa's consumer imaging division became Agfa Photo! I guess Agfa didn't mind that. I don't know what A&O will print on the boxes. This Rodinal is most likely existing stock from before the bankruptcy!

Agfa chemicals in the UK.

Not worth a new thread, so I'm tagging on to this one...

The UK now has stocks of Agfa chemicals according to the latest news item at the UK supplier Silverprint (www.silverprint.co.uk).

Agfa Chemistry Back!

<snip> All products are available apart from one or two of the more esoteric ones, including Viradon toner which will be on the next shipment. All the favourites are there, including Rodinal neg. developer and the Neutol print developers, Distribution in the UK is starting small, however, at the present the stockists are ourselves, Process Supplies from Clerkenwell, London EC1, and RK Photographic, now relocated to Potters Bar.

Cheers, Bob.

Return of RODINAL!

SteveH said:
Freestyle is stocking it as well. They told me that they will have it on the 27th.

To be safe, I ordered the large Rodinal + the Rodinal "Clone" (have never tried it yet).

I use the Rodinal with Efke 100 and Neopan 400....looks GREAT!

Now I need some Studional (aka Rodinal Special), and I'll be all set!

For Canadians in the Toronto area - its on the shelves at Henrys. The box is different - no diamond, but it seems the same.

Now - the question is - for how long? Is this a "for good" supply, or will it be gone in a month, two, or maybe a year? Of course, the people at the store could not tell me anything about that - none of them actually know anything, they just work there - grrr!!!

I just spoke with Freestyle. Anyone that recently ordered and received AGFA Rodinal from got the the OLD Rodinal from AGFA, not the new stuff made by the company that bought out the name and formula. That is not yet being stocked by Freestyle. They have an order for 200 500ml bottles of the new product on order which they expect 'soon'.

They also have Foma Fomadon R09 Film Developer, 250ml for $7.00(US). It is supposed to be the same post-WWII formula, but I'm sure there are others here that know more about this product than I do and how close it is to the AGFA Rodinal we all know and worship.

Sorry, but when the salesman told me he had some more of the old AGFA 500ml left, I bought out the remaining stock. No, it won't end up on eBay! It'll stay in my cabinet in case the new mfgr doesn't get it right....

The new manufacturer manufactures in the same factory using the same machines and the same employees like the old manufacturer. Those employees are the few AgfaPhoto workers that did not lose their job.
