I am going to buy the Framed book, but this time I am going to a real bookstore (Arcana) and paying full price. I'm tired of getting damaged books in the mail and I want to support a local retailer. Although the last book (I thought) I purchased was from a thrift store through e-bay, but that got all screwed up, never got the book.

I'm developing (pun intented) a huge admiration for the works of Ray Metzker. Anybody has Unknown Territory: Photographs by Ray Metzker? It's pretty expensive, so I want to make sure it's worth the price.

I don't have it but there's a complete flip-through of the book on YouTube:

Thanks. It has now entered my "books I'd like to have one day" list.

Another is Gary Stochl, On City Streets.

Saw his post, not on Facebook, but on Threads. I had heard of Metzker before, but Stochl was new to me.

Stochl was unknown to me as well.

I have one Metzker book, Landscapes, published by Aperture - a book of 6x6 landscapes. Not exactly what he's best known for.

I was getting some birthday stuff for my nephew yesterday, and the store had "American Geography" by Matt Black on the shelf, so I grabbed it.

Great book.

Reminds me that I recently made a list of all the photo books in my bookshelfs that have the words "America" or "American" in it:

In the American West — Richard Avedon
American Geography — Matt Black
American Blood — Danny Lyon
American Photographs — Walker Evans
America and Other Myths — Robert Frank / Todd Webb
The Americans — Robert Frank
American Geography: Photographs of Land Use from 1840 to the Present
American Sports, 1970 — Tod Papageorge
American Prospects — Joel Sternfeld
Black in White America — Leonard Freed
American Silence: The Photographs of Robert Adams

I can't believe I don't have American Surfaces 🙄...

You'll need to add these to your 'America' collection

Lee Friedlander America by Car

Jerry Berndt Beautiful America

Arthur Grace America 101

That's a pretty decent list of titles. What are your thoughts regarding the Frank/Webb book? Additionally, I'm still grumpy I missed out on the Radius "American Geography" title. I've had a chance to page through it, which makes its sold out status even worse.

I also realized I have 2 copies of Twin Palms' "Form: Horst" or "Horst: Form" if anyone is looking. (I'll post a proper ad this week) A few still remain from the publisher

This was posted on Pier 24's Instagram this morning. Dawoud Bey in front of a display of photobooks at the current/last ever Pier 24 exhibition 🙁

How many of these books do you have in your collection? I count nine in mine.

Interesting. I also have nine, but we only have three in common, Evans, Eggleston and Lyon.

I've been longing for The Pond, but it's at such an absurdly high price on the used market that I'd have to sell a kidney to get it. Cheapest I've seen is 350$US, which makes it 490$ in Canadian dollars... 😭

I didn't realize that it had gone out of print again. That's too bad. Hopefully you will run across a reasonably priced copy at some point.

My 2 are correction, 3

The Decisive Moment

Los Angeles Spring
(the new version)

What are the 3 books 2nd row up from bottom, right side of image, 2nd-4th books in from right side? 3 copies of same book with different dust jacket images?

Definitely 3 separate titles, probably same publisher, same series.

I'm throwing in the towel. There's a straight on image of the installation on instagram, I don't have instagram, so I can't magnify the image at all.
