I was lucky enough to be tipped off about a copy of 'The Wilder Shore' ( Seirra club ) with photographs by Morley Baer, bought for around £150 six years ago.
The book comes with an original contact print by Morley Baer, I'm not sure if they vary from copy to copy, mine has 'Ranchland, Big Sur, 1969' .

I have it. Great book. It's a Yale book, so of course there are many essays — 80 pages in a 300-page book—, but Dannny Lyon is a fantastic subject, and all the essays are interesting. The rest is an excellent retrospective, perfectly curated for who wants to get a sense of the variety and depth of his work. More than worth it at half price.

I've got a (signed) copy as well, and feel much the same way about it as @Alex Benjamin. A no-brainer at half price.

Thanks. I'll probably pick one up.

I found this the other day as well; Lots of text, so I can't give it a thorough review as yet.

I scored a decent pile of used books today. I was most stoked to get “The Wise Silence,” but all are welcome additions

Nice catch.

The Jill Krementz book has some really fine author portraits.
I have that one and another author themed book of hers; "The Writer's Desk", but I really think the images in both deserves better printing.

With all the attention on gender these days, one can hope she can have those republished in the quality they deserve, while she is still alive.

I like her unimposing style a lot - the subject gets the attention, not herself, but it probably also works against her when someone decides which books of the past should be reprinted.
The subject matter in the two mentioned books are of historical significance of course, so I hope that may help pave the way.

In the meantime these books are easy to find for pocket change, and more than worth it - as good photographs transcends poor printing.

Those interested in street photography, may have heard of Reuben Radding.
He is doing strong work in a traditional street style of contemporary New York street life.
I have seen some really impactful images of his.

Two days ago, he sent out a newsletter, announcing a Kickstarter fund raiser of his first book "Heavenly Arms" - to be published by Red Hook Editions in NYC and printed by Faenza Printing in Italy.

He has primarily published zines up until now.

I will most likely buy the book, but will wait until it can be purchased in EU to avoid the heavy postage/custom import handling fees.

I did support the project by buying a 4x6 work print - hoping it will just pass through EU customs as a letter

I have no affiliation with Reuben Redding other than having enjoyed his work online for a while - and have noticed that he very generously shares his knowledge with the photographer community - which I find very sympathetic.

My former professor will be having a book of writer's portraits published in the near future, so the subject wasn't buried in my subconscious when I saw this particular title. I got the whole pile for $40, so I was pretty happy. I didn't have the moral conundrum of whether to haggle or not, since the seller had the price worked out when I got there.

Been a bit hectic here but as requested, here is my take on my 2 latest acquisitions. The signed copy of The Bikeriders is fabulous, great reproduction, book arrive well packaged. I was a bit concerned when I did not see a signature on the fly leaf or title page. Danny signed it (and I guess all his books) at the end, on the copyright page.

The other book I got (finally) is Rick McCloskey's Van Nuys Blvd 1972. I had found this one new on eBay, but the sale fell through--the seller did not ship it or respond to requests. Then I found the seller's website, the book was still listed and decided to try again. A few bucks cheaper (no eBay markup) and the book arrived in great condition. Most of the shots are night time on pushed Tri-X, but it still looks good. Maybe a little superficial and repetitive, especially compared to the similar endeavor by Danny Lyon.

Listening to Sasha Wolf's interview with Rahim Fortune made me reopen I Can't Stand to See You Cry, a book I enjoyed immensely when I got it but hadn't look at in a while.

Putting some money aside to get his latest, Hardtack.

Her most recent interview with Todd Hido is also very interesting. He talks a bit about his latest book, The End Sends Advance Warning.

Thanks, I'll check it out as well, although I'm not a huge Todd Hido fan.

I recently stumbled upon a ten year old YouTube video of her giving a talk about her experiences as a photography gallery owner. The talk was given at the School of Visual Arts. I really enjoyed her no-BS delivery and I'm hoping she hasn't softened much in the intervening years 🙂

I just picked up a book of photos by the late great painter Cy Twombly. They are very impressionistic and soft, but I like them. I wonder if any of you have seen them, and what do you think?

I gotta get a hold on this. Just received Mark Powers' Good Morning, America Volume IV (gorgeous) and Herb Ritts' Pictures (haven't opened it yet).

Ellsworth Kelly also did a book of fabulous black and white photos. Stunning compositions.

I've been following him on Instagram, and having a difficult time resisting the impulse to get the book. I should hurry, he posted that vol IV is soon to be sold out, as are the first three...

Still, it will have to wait. Just ordered Daido Moriyama: A retrospective (Prestel Publishing).

Mark Power’s The Shipping Forecast is well worthwhile in my opinion.

I just got Winogrand Color. OMG. I'm speechless. This is one of the most beautiful book of photographs I've ever held in my hands.
