What is a good Wessel book? I have Night Walk which is a fantastic book. Curious if there is a all encompassing one.

There's not much apart from what Logan suggested. You can purchase an anthology from Amazon but I don't own it, so I can't vouch for it.

There was a retrospective book published by Steidl in 2007 in conjunction with the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. I don't own a copy and it's pretty expensive on the used market - on the order of $250 for a nice copy. $500 gets you a signed copy from Jeff Hirsch Books.

I was aware of the more current Steidl books but I wasn't aware of the older one.

It really chaps my hide that I could have met Wessel back in the day. I knew a few people who were friends with him unbeknownst to me but he was never really on my radar until I had moved away from SoCal. Such a shame. I've met a lot of people in my life though so I can't really complain. Just a missed opportunity.

To be brutally frank, I never liked the low contrast type of image Wessel produced. I lean more towards the Moriyama/Gibson end of the spectrum. I've grown to appreciate his work though. Same with Robert Adams. Maybe I'm getting older.
