If you're asking me which EI I use with this film, it's 250 for normal contrast situations.
Yes - I have to state : I realized a bit too late you mentioned to shot 4x5 that is a total different issue for hp5! Concerning grain! Also 120 Hp5 will show "aceptable" grain with EI 250!
Now I can imagine what you mentioned with : "conventionel Hp5 grain love affair"

with regards

PS : These days much "crazy lovers" are in affaires with Rodinal, Hp5, Delta 400, EI 3200, 35mm:whistling:....some feel not fine and need 110 films......:wondering:..that scares me sometimes:cry::cry::cry::cry:!
Because I felt wrong :laugh::D!

I love this film, it seems to retail shadow detail, especially when I want to use a deep yellow or a red filter better than tmax 100. But in 400 speed, I like tmax 400 better than delta 400. Ive used both HC110 and D76, lately I'm been using D76 for everything.

To me Delta 100 is not a small grain film. Looks like Tri-X, with lovely spectral response.

As a sidenote; I’m a grain lover, tmax 3200 is my favorite, but I’m onto my last 100 rolls of tmax 100 (out of 1200) and its marvelous tonal scale totally makes up for the lack of grain. The final look is as beautiful as can be. I’m as flabbergasted While looking at a TMAX3200 print as well as while looking at a tmax100 print.

To my eye, Delta 100 is truly a hybrid between T grain and traditional.

In the end, I’m just a film whore. I love them all.

Do you scan or print? Delta 100 is one of the finest grained films ever, I've enlarged 35mm negatives to 16x20 with minimal grain. I don't understand how anyone could think it a hybrid, it is a true tabular grain film, or consider the grain similar to TriX, there's just no comparassen.

Has anyone ever tried Delta 100 and Acufine? Care to share what you found?

It is not true tabular and it’s actually a hybrid. As a matter of fact, Roger Hicks (RIP) has written on the subject many times.

Yes it’s fine grain but not much finer than tmax400, and I have found its tonal rendition to be far away from the smoothness of tmax100.

I print in the darkroom exclusively.

I switched to Delta 100 from Tmax 100 about 11 or 12 years ago, both are superb films, the only reason for my switch wasvery poor availability of Kodak B&W films while I was living abroad.

One comment it's not a contrasty film and gives very good fine grain, but like all films you ideally need to test and find your personal EI and development time, in "Nomal" lighting conditions, to consistently get the best from it.

Just finished a bulk roll. I will echo above. It is contrasty but a very nice film. I am partial to d76 and have only use hc110 as the other developer.

FM2n, nikon series e 35/2.5 w/ yellow filter, d76 (probably 1:1)

I do NOT know anything about scanning, and have no idea if these are Negs or Prints.
But.....when i use a yellow filter, YOUR pictures are exactly what i want MY skies and clouds to look like.
Was that a "Normal" or Light yellow filter.?
Thank You

I mostly prefer traditional cubic grain film but I do shoot Delta 100 on occasion. There are times when I like how I can get contrasty photos from it in bright sunlight and as others have said...it has a look all of it's own on duller days. However I also find it looks almost "digital" in it's rendering of sunny images.

When I shoot Delta 100 I'll develop either in ID11 stock or Microphen.

My preference in 4x5 , FP4+ @EI 100 for normal to high contrast landscape scenes, but for punch on low contrast scenes or architecture Delta is my choice. I have shot both for the same image for comparison. I process in diluted pyrocat HD using Steve Sherman's EMA technique. I tried Delta with HC110 1:63 but found it too contrasty and would not hold highlights or would block up shadow details if under exposed. Its a great film in smaller formats if shooting a variety of subjects. So you may have to do some testing to find your EI and developer/process combo.

So I wanted to start a thread specifically for the film to compile/see what people's thoughts are it in one place, instead of digging around a 100 other threads to get an idea about it.

Can you say what you have concluded from this range of opinions/experiences? I have concluded what I'd thought I'd conclude when I saw the thread but it's what you have gotten out of the replies that counts. Thanks

I'd add so is Delta 400, and definitely HP5 in LF. I've yet to try FP4 in Pyrocat HD but would expect that to be another superb combination.

Ian

Excellent combination.

I'm using it extensively right now in DDX. Delta and DDX were (probably literally) made for each other ...
