To repair or not repair A12 film backs, that is the question.

The arm part underneath came out, whoopsie. I think that is the part that prevents the shutter from firing when the dark slide is in?

I'm taking a break for now. Have other issues it looks like.

The first time I screwed the plate back in, attached the film back to the camera, pulled out the dark slide and tried to fire off a shot. No-go. I unscrewed everything again and checked to see if that armature was in place before putting the plate back on. Now that I got everything screwed back in, the film back will now not go back onto the camera.

I did save the old foil and foam piece. The foam looked actually kind of good for its age. I didn't screw the screws in that tightly like what they were because I will be putting new seals in it soon.

The adventure definitely has begun, lol.

I couldn't get the film back attached to the camera so I unscrewed the plate again and was moving the top button slider and things ended up like this.

Update: That black piece is a pita to say the very least. Trying to hold that part in place while keeping the top "12" button aligned just right and kept in, with tape, while moving over that spring metal piece. I am able to get that metal piece reconnected with the top button but that black piece doesn't want to stay put. taking another break. Crash course training this is, lol.

Everything is back together but I am not sure about that top thin black piece. It doesn't look like it connected to anywhere. It just rests underneath the metal slider.

The film back, as before, will not attach to the camera and I am not understanding why. When I slide the top button there is emptiness in those two areas where the top metal hooks on the camera side should go right in.

I'll try again tomorrow.

Oops, that was to semi direct, need SCRIBD account (still free or with google account or several others). Let me see if I can find more proper "direct" link.

THIS will work just fine, and there are more once you get through some clicks.

IF one wants to save it as a web page but not as a pdf or other usable document.

I shouldn't, but I can't resist.
Old Fashioneds for both of you? 😇 😉
Now to report myself to the Moderators.

Dry gin Martinis for me. Stirred not shaken. Shaking kills the botanicals, ruining the drink. Never vodka which has no taste, just like James Bond who got it wrong twice. Actually Ian Flemming had it correct in his first book and then proceeded to screw it up in every book since.

With a couple of clicks, I was able to download the pdf.
You have to use their download utility.

I downloaded the file without a problem from that link before I posted it.

You succeeded where I have failed many times before. That problem had been a nuisance for quite awhile. @MattKing showed me the way

The film back is ready for new sealing materials. For now I reassembled it until I do this. The back wants to try to connect with the camera but it can't. I can hear faint clicking when trying to attach it to the camera but it just doesn't make it, isn't catching. I am being gentle with it. I compared the film back I have been working on to the other bad back and the holes on top and at the bottom are not obstructed by anything. The plate area is flat so I am confused as to why the mating isn't happening. The other bad back connects to the camera no problem.

Manuals are great. I also wish that there were video demonstrations about things such as this. I am fine with written text and diagrams and I am also a visual person. Sometimes things are easier for me that way with certain things.
