I want to know if the real surprise will be the film coming in a aluminum canister. Orange can with a red top. For that I would gladly pay 15 bucks.

I wouldn't put it beyond them, but I don't think that's very likely. I also wouldn't find it particularly useful, although I guess it would be kind of a cute gesture.

This is a fun idea, but I would prefer steel canisters.

I hope it's not like that Polaroid post where they hyped up for weeks, only for it to be some crappy bluetooth speaker

Good old days, Kodak starting filter packs were very useful, especially when using Kodak professional films. That's all over now.

I'll do my part. I was talking to the owner of a local store over the weekend, and they said that whatever it is (they couldn't say of course, but do know) will be limited to a fairly small number of brick and mortar stores to start (at least in the US), and will indeed be limited in quantity such that it'll likely sell out pretty quickly. What they said made me think we're talking about a single master roll worldwide to start with.

Cards sent to Salt Lake City and various other US locations; but the only UK recipients I can recall are Analogue Wonderland and the Scots photographer mentioned a few days ago (and the expired film fella, if he's UK). None of the people I usually buy film from have referred to this campaign. I know, as Matt King said in commenting on an earlier post of mine, that the US is Harman's main market; but there are some small retailers in Britain that I'd have expected to see in on this business.

I see my local store has followed Harman on Instagram, but has made no mention of anything 'happening soon'. So I guess if I want some of this, I can order on the internet like everyone else, or I can follow a westerly star to Mobberley, and ask at the little shop at the gate. I'll avoid lunchtime though - might get caught up in the hoedown. 🕺

My local camera shop, which still struggles to obtain enough colour film from their supplier, knows nothing about this. So they are not among those getting any, I assume. I know them sufficiently well that I'm sure they wouldn't tell me any details, but would let me know they were in the know themselves. They had no idea, I was telling them about it all.

Not very surprising as they are one small shop with no direct connections to Harman or Kodak-Alaris. They rely on a third party distributor, but they are always well stocked with Ilford films and just cannot get sufficient Kodak colour film. They'd welcome another reliable supply of C41 film. Though it seems this may not be a reliable supply just yet.

I got the impression that the cards went out to influencers on Instagram, TikTok etc rather than camera stores. I doubt if many of the UK’s camera stores are social media influencers (I live in the UK) and some of the big UK brands are 4x5 / 8x10 cameras or other things where there’s unlikely to be a tie in (e.g, Solarcan)

All my local shops have closed up in the last 4 or 5 years. We had 2 great stores, University Camera here in Iowa City was amazing, used film cameras, lenses, lots of film. All gone.
I hope that there's enough of this stuff that ordinary folks (like me) get a chance to try this. Hopefully it's not just a social experiment, I don't think it is.
A lot more people are aware of the Harman name, that's a good thing.

I'd be surprised if there isn't the ability to distribute the new product to every large retailer worldwide once the announcement has been made. even if initially and only initially for a short period the amount sent to each retailer is limited

If Harman has failed to plan the logistics properly such that it is a "dribs and drabs" supply for sometime to come then that's not the Harman that it used to be. Certainly the e-mail it sent to me indicated that it was using the run-up to the announcement for this very purpose

Harman aren't the distributor in US, Canada or much of the world. So the marketing you see may very well be as much due to the efforts of the US distributor as it is the work of Harman.

There's this one shop the owner of which I know. We texted a bit over the weekend. He knows about it, what it is and has been sent a datasheet of the new product. Apparently, this was only communicated to him over the past few days; before this, he seemed to know not much more than any of us.

At this rate we won't bre beore this is official.

Here's another towards 1,500 cause.

I think they will announce the new assembly plant for U.K. built electric Harley Davidson motor bikes.

After all, if it's electric or plumbing, I hear England is THE Place to get it done. 👍
