The word I got this weekend was that Vivitar had a run of bad cameras and local stores returned 100% of them for replacement. This upset local school plans to use the inexpensive B&W cameras to teach analog photography in the high schools. Ensuing problems forced Vivitar into their present position and as I understand things the deal with Kodak is either kaput or is undergoing serious revision and is therefore on hold.

Unfortunately the build quality on most if not all current budget K mount camera's is fairly poor, regardless of who makes them. Vivitar are just a design house, who built an very high reputation with their Series 1 lenses. There's still a need for the K1000 and it's a pity Pentax can't be persuaded to resume production perhaps with Kodak badge.

I think this Kodak camera is just the Kodak name on an existing camera, in order for Kodak to offer complete packages of materials to analog photography courses in Colleges and Universities.

Isn't this what the Polaroid name amounts to anymore? There are still odds and ends floating around with the name plastered on it more prominently than the "Made In China" sticker.

While Vivitar used to be a good name for FD mount lenses (had a few of them in the 80s), EK is going to further sully their name by branding and selling this Chinese junk.

I'll repeat my last post in plainer English. The latest word on the street here in Rochester is "it ain't gonna happen"!

Under prevailing market trends, with Kodak and Vivitar captial taken into consideration, and the average film usage, there is a low relative probability that our suppositions as expostulated in that newspaper article, may have a low chance of taking place in our limited lifetimes. I guess. I think. :D

About 3 or 4 years ago I needed a spare K mount body urgently and asked my local dealers about the Phenix. He said don't buy it they won't last 6 months with your useage.
