Nice. I have 'The Pond' by him, and a Steidl monograph in the same series as the one you have, 'Should Nature Change' - a true great.

'The Pond' is the only Gossage title I have. I've heard good things about 'Looking up Ben James - A Fable' too, but I haven't got around to picking up a copy yet.

I just ordered Japanese Photography Magazines, 1880s to 1980s from Goliga books.

This meta-book has gotten a bit of positive attention in the past year and I have a special attachment to Japanese photography, as my interest in photo books began when I lived in Tokyo and enjoyed the rich publishing culture which continues to fascinate me tremendously.

I already own Steidl's The Japanese Photo Book 1912-1990 and I imagine these two will supplement each other well.

Both are/were quite expensive new, but the latter is long out of print and now unobtainable at a price point where I can participate.
I suspect both are made more as a public service rather than in expectation of profit. They are also elaborately executed and limited in their potential reach, thus I dared not wait too long to press the "buy" button as neither will be obvious candidates for a reprint.

Thank you for letting me know about this "Japanese photography Magazines" book. It looks really interesting. I was offered steidl's "Japanese Photo Book" when it came out, I confirm it's a great book. I'm also fond of Japanese photography and their publishing culture. And it's still very lively today. On my last trip there, I discovered a magazine I hadn't heard about yet "sha shin magazine" (easy to remember...) it's published by Fugensha. They have a nice gallery also.

Just ordered Brett Weston's "Baja California" portfolio (Lodima Press) to dip a toe in that set. Given how good their "Edward Weston: Life Work" book is I'm expecting great things.

Don’t be surprised when you find yourself wanting the entire series.

Hi GLS thank you for the recommendation. Did you order directly from the US or is there a distributor in the UK or EU?

This was from a book seller on ebay, in new condition. There are a number of them listed (in the UK at least) if you do a search for "Brett Weston Lodima"

I was scrolling through the Stanley Barker site last night. Things could get expensive. I keep on seeing/hearing about various titles only to have them be out of print (Larry Fink Opening the Sky).

Speaking of Larry Fink, nice little film about him on Nowness.

Their "Photographers in focus" series is pretty good.

On the off chance this isn't just a quirk of perspective, I checked the Nazraeli site regarding that book: 14"x17" same as the current "House Hunting."
It is the tallest book I own.

I wondered if this was due to the perspective as well. But later in the video clip he holds the book up square to the camera and, yeah, it's huge.

I have a copy of the Special Edition of Lee Friedlander's America By Car. It is an absolutely huge book and it's only 14 x 15.5. The Todd Hido book beats it.

Books like that are just annoying because almost no book shelf can accommodate them standing up.

My biggest is a Nick Brandt book (also 14 x 15.5"). The prints are lovely though.

Strange. I wonder what that particular copy is then? A concept trial, Super special edition printed just for Todd Hido, something else?

They're not photo books, but other art books; I have a couple by Mark Ryden that are a strange long format and don't shelve easily.

Just received a copy of "Early Sunday Morning" by Peter Mitchell - RRB Photo books Bristol.

Gorgeous little book, beautifully printed too. I will seek more from this publisher.

The only book I have from RRB is Tony Ray-Jones, which I really like. They do have a couple of other books in their catalog that interest me, but I haven't gotten around to ordering any of them yet.

I haven't seen a Photrio thread dedicated to photobook collecting so I thought I'd start one.

Let's use this thread to discuss new photobooks you've purchased, share book reviews (photos of spreads, videos of flip-throughs encouraged), links to photobook collecting resources (blogs, review sites, YouTube flip-throughs and other book-related channels, etc), book sales, and anything else photobook-related you can think of.

I'll kick things off with news of an incredibly good book sale on now until June 23 from Yale University Press (no affiliation other than a regular customer). Books are 50% off site-wide (there are a few exclusions for out of stock books and pre-orders) and shipping is free. Probably one of the best sales I've seen in a long time and Yale University Press has published a huge selection of excellent photography and art books.

I just ordered five books (saved $130) but might go back and get a few more before the sale closes.

Yale University Press 50% Off Book Sale

{moderator's note: for extra clarity on the scope of this thread's subject, it may be useful to read the OP's post #163}

I'll share my library
