Cloudy and sunny with the odd bit of drizzle here in Cumbria, England at the moment...on the whole I get pretty reasonable weather for commuting to work on my bike.

Beautiful fall weather...low 60s but nice in the sun. My son, Alex, in contrast is in Chiba (near Tokyo) with Typhoon Hagibis over his head. https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-50020108

So far all is well with him. He has had an upbringing with storms coming off the Pacific here in the NW, but typhoons are a horse of a different color!

We have CalFire air tankers and support craft circling over town, but the CalFire website does not show any activity nearby yet.

Smelled smoke yesterday, last night and this morning. We do not smell smoke now. We are many miles from the fires.

The aircraft left soon after I posted above -- we have a control burn up the hill from town...the planes must have been called in as a precaution.

Alex woke up to clear skies this morning in Chiba/Tokyo (it is now 7pm Sat. here -- 11am Sunday there). Damage to the solar panels on top of the house he is living in. Some damage to Tokyo bridges due to flood waters, he says.

I woke up to blue skies today, but yesterday was a bit rainy and blustery here in Kyoto due to the typhoon. Of course, we did not experience the worst of it like those further north did.

It is October 13, 2019 and this past week, the temperature finally felt, a little, like Fall. There was also a little rain which we sorely needed. September was just another hot Summer month. Checked the heater in my darkroom. It works. I'm ready for the cold, I guess..........Regards!

Last night, 4 inches of rain in an hour and a half, high winds knocked leaves off the trees and clogged storm drains. Flooded streets, water backed up into stores and basements, mud slides, main highway closed. Oh yeah, tornado watch until midnight. We listened to the wind all night, gusts to 65-70mph.

It’s supposed to be sunny and warm-(er) today, mid ‘50’s. It’s been gray and rainy for a week or two and the fungus in my yard loves it. Yuk!!

I almost made it home last night before that storm hit. Drove the last three miles with waves of water hitting the car, hoping a tree wouldn't fall on me. Luckily, trick-or-treating was over about an hour before it rolled in.

We had a moderate storm here in PA Wednesday night through last night. There was a decent amount of rain, but no major flooding that I know of.

But the system continued up through central NYS / Mohawk Valley and there has been some major flooding where I grew up.

Everyone was complaining about how cold it was tonight at the high school football game as we were waiting to run out on the field with props for the band.

Just last Thursday I drove south by Castaic the hour the fire started and boy did I see a lot of fire vehicles driving north to deal with it. Then Sunday we were driving north and found ourselves in a caravan. My sister was watching the wifi networks that showed up on her phone as they drove by. Came home to no power. Brother in law had to evacuate. Another family friend in another part of the southland had to evacuate twice.

Awakened to fog and 20f. Sunshine and a blistering high of 40 predicted for the day. Currently 26 and I just finished cleaning all the leaves and debris from the storm and winds.

Not me, I'm not laughing. Our temperature has already been in the upper 90sF. High humidity also. Summer started here on or before June 1, 2019, not June 21 and will last 4 more months or until the first of October. A darkroom without an air conditioner here doubles as a sauna. Unlike other places, here we photograph in Fall, Winter, and Spring. Darkroom work (air-conditioned) is done during hot-humid weather in the Summer when it also is too hot and miserable to take pictures outside.............Regards!
Its me again. Today is Nov.2 and last night the temperature dipped to 28F. Summer held on this year until the second week of October. I, for on am glad that Summer is over. Time for the leaves to change color...........Regards!

Desert heat - what? In Palm Springs, where I was just a month ago, it can be 100-105F with ~8% humidity and it feels just warm; it's pleasant.

95F in Washington or Oregon, with the humidity, is just nasty.

People from the Great Lakes region or southern U.S. just laugh at our "humidity" though.

It's true! I live in Central Illinois. We get some days in the summer where it's 95°F and the relative humidity is 90%. You sweat like a pig, but it doesn't evaporate to cool you off.

True story: In 1997, I was visiting a friend in Tucson. He took me to an outdoor party hosted by some of his friends. It was over 100°F, and the humidity was 12%. His friends were complaining about how humid it was. My response: "This humidity is nothing. Come to Illinois. I will show you humidity."

On Halloween this year, we had our first snow of the season. Got about an inch or so of the white stuff. It was gone by the next day.

They say -33 with the wind but it feels more like -40 where I am. Had to go inside to warm up a wee bit, 500ft against the wind and I felt unwell. Never happened to me before.

I applaud you for your precision, but I doubt I could tell the difference - I would be simply miserable in either case!

In the low desert we will be in the mid 60s warming the low 70s by the weekend, then a chance of rain on Xmas, lows in the 40s for the most part. Drive 90 minutes north, highs in the 40s lows in the teens, and snow over Christmas.
